All Fillings
There are two main types of filling, amalgam fillings and composite fillings. The choice of filling type is determined by the location of the tooth, and a person's ability to commit to follow up care.

Amalgam, or silver fillings last 8-10 years and are used on back teeth, that is pre-molars and molars. Maintenance of these fillings include daily flossing and follow up x-rays at 18 month to 2 year intervals to check that the filling is not leaking.

Composite fillings are tooth colored and can be used as an alternative to amalgam fillings, and are suitable for front and back teeth. The filling material is a special mix of plastic with small glass particles. Composite fillings last for 3 to 5 years.  Maintenance of these fillings include daily flossing and yearly x-rays.
