Invisalign

Invisalign is now available at LifeCare Dental. Until recently, the practices of traditional orthodontics (braces) and general restorative dentistry have stood largely separate from one another (Smallwood, 2009). The separation of the two disciplines meant that patients would have to go between their specialist orthodontist and their general dentist. Now you can have all your dental needs catered for at LifeCare Dental. This gives you and other patients the advantage of having any general dental problems treated when and if when the problem arises; we continue to be open 7 days a week, from 8.00am to 8.00pm, 365 days a year.

Using the Invisalign system as opposed to "traditional" braces decreases the chance of having problems that are caused by wearing braces. A study by Schaefer and Braumann (2010) found that Invisalign did not cause any significant problems in terms of bad breath, dry mouth, increased plaque or gum problems, all problems that were previously associated with "traditional braces". Invisalign is an aestehetic orthodontic treatment that corrects malocclusions using a series of custon-made, nearly invisible, comfortable, removable Aligners. The Invisalgin system is associated with:

Healthier gums: because patients can brush and floss normally during treatment.

Easier Cleaning: Removable aligners help to maintain good oral hygiene, reducting the chances of plaque retention, tooth decay and periodontal disease.

Fewer emergency appointments: There are no wires or broken brackets that can irritate soft tissue and slow down treatment.

Treatment Procedure: After or during the initial consultation, your dentist will take x-rays, photos, and moulds of your teeth. These records are then used to manufacture your custom made aligners. This process (making the aligners) takes approximately 6 weeks. You will then require regular appointments - usually once every six weeks. These appointments are necessary to ensure that your treatment is progressing as planned. Most patients experience temporary, minor discomfort for a few days at the beginning of each new stage of treatment. People normally describe this as a feeling of pressure, whilst this is uncomfortable, it is a sign that treatment is working. In general treatment takes between 12 and 18 months, for some cases it takes 2 years.
